LETTER: Hearings for Atomic Safety and Licensing Board open to public

The hearing before the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission on Aug. 19-21 will be held at the Alex Johnson Hotel, 523 Sixth St., Rapid City. The hearing will start at 9 a.m. on Aug. 19 and go through 5 p.m. Aug. 21. The board’s notice on the hearing states, “Please be aware that security measures may be employed at the entrance to the facility, including searches of hand-carried items such as briefcases or backpacks. No signs, banners, posters, or other displays will be permitted in the courtroom.” The public is welcome (encouraged) to attend, but only the lawyers, parties and witnesses can talk. Public comment (limited to 3 minutes) will be heard by the board in two sessions from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and again at 5 to 8 p.m. at the Mueller Center in Hot Springs. And, the public is welcome (encouraged) to attend, but only those lawyers and parties who have signed up can talk.
