LETTER: Author Aslan misses point of Jesus’ story
To the Editor:
I think Reza Aslan needs to read the New Testament completely. First I will start with Jesus’ brothers. Of course he did have some, but Mary was a virgin and He was her first child. After He was born, Mary and Joseph had several boys.
After Jesus was born in Bethlehem, Herod ordered all boys up to 2 years old killed. God warned Joseph to take his wife and son and go to Egypt. Then he was ordered to Israel. Again he called and went to Nazareth. That is why Jesus was called a Nazarene.
As far as Pilate is concerned, I don’t know what he was like through the years, but it made a difference when Jesus, the Son of God, stood before him and he didn’t find any wrong in Him, but washed his hands of Him. Jesus suffered untold agony on the cruel cross for the salvation of all of us. After He died, Joseph of Arimathea, a rich man, went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus and put Him in his own new tomb.
I’m so glad this story doesn’t end here. Jesus arose and went back to Heaven after spending a few days with his disciples. He is there still interceding for us to be ready when we are called.
