Lehr helps Menno to 51-48 win over Canistota Hawks

MENNO — Dustin Lehr recorded a double-double as the Menno boys’ basketball team defeated Canistota 51-48 Thursday.

Lehr had 10 points and 11 rebounds, Caleb Preszler tallied 12 points and Chet Peterson added 11 point to round out the scoring for Menno, which shot 53 percent from the field, 38 percent from the free-throw line and had 12 turnovers.

Canistota was led by Shay Jolly with 13 points and Nick Hofer with chipped in 10 points. Canistota shot 37 percent from the field, 72 percent from the free-throw line and grabbed 32 rebounds.

Menno (8-10) plays Viborg-Hurley Tuesday in Menno and Canistota (9-8) plays Howard in Canistota.

Ethan 62, Mount Vernon/Plankinton 47 MOUNT VERNON — Ethan beat Mount Vernon/Plankinton 62-47 Thursday in a high school boys’ basketball game.

Blake Bartscher led Ethan on the night with 25 points, Camden Myers had 17 points and seven rebounds and Tyler Myers added nine points. Ethan shot 60 percent from the field, 50 percent from the line and snagged 29 rebounds.

Mount Vernon/Plankinton was led by Deric Denning with 14 points and six rebounds. Nick Lawson contributed 10 points and Cody Renken knocked down eight points. Mount Vernon/Plankinton shot 33 percent from the field, 57 percent from the free-throw line and had 34 rebounds.

Ethan (15-3) plays Freeman Saturday in Freeman and Mount Vernon/Plankinton (9-7) plays Potter County in the DWU Classic Saturday.

Kimball/White Lake 64, Dakota Christian 39 NEW HOLLAND — Kimball/White Lake’s Eathen Gaulke scored a game-high 20 points in the WiLdKats’ 64-39 victory over Dakota Christian Thursday in a high school boys’ basketball game.

Noah Munsen had 13 points and Brandon Overweg had eight rebounds for Kimball/White Lake, which shot 49 percent from the field, 56 percent from the free-throw line and controlled the glass with 37 rebounds.

Owen Medicine had 16 points to lead Dakota Christian, while Pearce VanderPol had eight points. Dakota Christian shot 31 percent from the field, 67 percent from the free-throw line and had 22 rebounds.

Kimball/White Lake (4-13) plays Wessington Springs Tuesday in White Lake and Dakota Christian (3-14) plays at James Valley Christian today.

Corsica/Stickney 65, Freeman 56 FREEMAN — The Corsica/Stickney boys’ basketball team defeated Freeman 65-56 Thursday.

Eli Van Roekel led Corsica/Stickney with 21 points and seven rebounds. Brian Joachim had 11 points and Austin Tilton contributed 10 points for Corsica/Stickney, which shot 59 percent from the field, 83 percent from the line and had 18 rebounds.

Freeman was led by Cole Paulson with 13 points and six rebounds, Brennan Schmidt with 12 points and six rebounds and Joe Weier with 13 points. Freeman shot 42 percent from the field, 63 percent from the line and had 19 rebounds.

Corsica/Stickney (9-7) plays McCook Central/Montrose Saturday at the DWU Classic at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, while Freeman (8-8) plays Ethan Saturday in Freeman.

Burke/South Central 54, Andes Central 35 BONESTEEL — Burke/South Central’s Sam Hazen had a double-double in a 54-35 win over Andes Central Thursday in high school boys’ basketball action.

Hazen had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Dell Drey recorded 12 points and Zach Sebern had 10 points in the win. Burke/South Central shot 44 percent from the field, 69 percent from the line and had 23 rebounds.

Andes Central was led by Darrin Hopkins with 17 points and Joey Evans with eight points. Andes Central shot 26 percent from the field, 44 percent from the free-throw line and had 22 rebounds.

Burke/South Central (9-7) plays Bridgewater-Emery Saturday at the DWU Classic at the Corn Palace in Mitchell, while Andes Central plays Kimball/White Lake Thursday in Mitchell.

Miller 59, Wessington Springs 52 WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Wessington Springs boys’ basketball team fell to Miller 59-52 Thursday.

Beau Keeter scored 21 points to lead the way for Miller, which shot 23-of-46 from the field. Hayden Herman chipped in 11 points. The Rustlers were 11-of-19 from the free-throw line.

Wessington Springs was led by Jase Kraft, who scored 15 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and doled out four assists. Braden Jones chipped in with 14 points, while Zachary Paulson had seven rebounds. The Spartans were 18-of-58 from the field and 10-of-23 from the free-throw line.

Wessington Springs (4-13) plays Kimball/White Lake Tuesday in White Lake, while Miller (9-7) plays Todd County Saturday in Mission.

Girls’ basketball Lennox 52, Parkston 38 PARKSTON — Lennox topped Parkston 52-38 in a high school girls’ basketball game on Thursday night.

Parkston was led by Justene Alley with 14 points, Halli Heisinger had 10 and Sadie Schoenfelder chipped in with six. Parkston shot 29 percent from the field, 56 percent from the line and had 22 rebounds.

Lennox was led by Katelyn Hinker with 14 points and Jessica Herrboldt with nine points. Lennox shot 32 percent from the field, 58 percent from the free-throw line and had 29 rebounds.

Parkston (5-12) Bridgewater-Emery Saturday at Emery and Lennox (10-7) plays Tea Area Saturday in Tea.

Wessington Springs 50, Miller 38 WESSINGTON SPRINGS — The Wessington Springs girls’ basketball team made 22 free throws en route to beating Miller 50-38 Thursday.

Sheyanne Brodkorb scored 19 points to lead the way for Wessington Springs. Devin Tebay chipped in with 15 points, while Shyanne Kopfman added six points and 17 rebounds. The Spartans (8-10) were 10-of-36 from the field.

Miller was led by Jamie Mentzer, who had 11 points. The Rustlers, who won the JV game 37-20, were 11-of-41 from the field,

Wessington Springs hosts Lyman Saturday, while Miller (8-10) plays Todd County Saturday in Mission.

Winner 77, Platte-Geddes 28 WINNER — Five players scored in double figures to help the No. 4 Winner girls’ basketball team beat Platte-Geddes 77-28 Thursday.

Kelsey Bertram led the way for Winner with 14 points. Cassidy Hanson added 12 points and nine rebounds, Katie Mathis chipped in with 12 points, Tawny Sherman had 11 points and Kennede Mathis scored 10 points. The Warriors were 34-of-60 from the field, 3-of-7 from the free-throw line and won the JV game 65-32.

Platte-Geddes was led by Josie DeGroot, who scored 14 points and grabbed four rebounds. The Black Panthers were 13-of-45 from the field and 2-of-6 from the free-throw line.

Winner (16-1) hosts McLaughlin today in Winner, while Platte-Geddes (6-12) hosts Bon Homme today in Platte.
