According to South Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper Casey Bassett, Dennis Wesloski, of Scranton, Pa., was driving a 2008 Honda Goldwing eastbound on I-90 near mile marker 352, when he drifted to the left out of the passing lane and hit a guardrail beneath a bridge, causing the motorcycle to spin and roll multiple times.

Wesloski suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, including a severed leg, Bassett said. A doctor and nurse who happened to be driving nearby applied a tourniquet to Wesloski’s wound and cared for him before paramedics arrived, Bassett said.

Wesloski, who was wearing a helmet in the crash, was taken to a hospital in Sioux Falls, where his injuries were updated to non-life-threatening, Bassett said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, Bassett said.
