Lake Andes woman avoids prison after Walmart theft
A Lake Andes woman arrested last year for attempted theft of more than $2,000 of products from Walmart was sentenced Tuesday at the Davison County Public Safety Center in Mitchell.
Colleen Marie Fischer, 25, received a three-year suspended prison sentence. She was sentenced to serve 50 days in the Davison County Jail and given credit for nine days already served.
She was ordered to pay a $400 fine, $104 in court costs and any court-appointed attorney fees.
She must also write a letter of apology to Walmart and use her best efforts to either enroll in school or find full-time employment. Fischer said Tuesday she is unemployed.
Fischer, along with Jessica Louise Archambeau, Victoria Lynn Johnson and a juvenile female, were arrested last year after attempting to steal items from Walmart. The group loaded a cart with more than $2,000 worth of items they planned to steal but left the cart near the door after realizing they were being watched by loss prevention employees at the store.
