Lake Andes teen’s left lung punctured in stabbing
LAKE ANDES — A fight between two people severely injured one man Monday night in Lake Andes.
An 18-year-old man was stabbed in the chest around 10:30 p.m., and eventually flown to a Sioux Falls hospital with a punctured left lung.
Terrell Hopkins, of Lake Andes, made his way to a house after he was stabbed. The resident of the house called 911 after seeing Hopkins’ wound.
“He was stabilized at Wagner Community Hospital and then airlifted to Sioux Falls,” said Neal Moad, chief deputy and criminal investigator for Charles Mix County.
However, Hopkins was unwilling to comply with the investigation.
Moad said Hopkins would not identify the suspect who stabbed him or tell Moad where the incident happened.
The case is being investigated as an aggravated assault. When and if anyone is charged with and convicted of the crime, the maximum penalty is 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fi ne.
“This was an isolated incident,” Moad said. “I believe I know who it was, but I’m not going to release that information as this is an active investigation.”
He’s not concerned for the public’s safety, he said.
