La Lumiere beats West Oaks 65-51
La Lumiere (La Porte Ind.) earned its second victory at the Fourth Annual Mike Miller Classic as it cruised to a 65-51 win over West Oaks Academy (Fla.)
The Lakers were led by junior guard Jalen Coleman and senior forward Sam Logwood.
Coleman finished with a game-high 17 points, while Logwood recorded 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Logwood attacked the hoop all game, which gave West Oaks fits. Logwood’s effectiveness down low opened up things on the outside for La Lumiere.
The Lakers made 9 of 16 3-pointers, including two from Coleman and three from junior guard Drew Cayce.
Cayce finished with 11 points, nine of those were from 3-pointers.
“I thought we made just enough tough plays to win the ball game,” La Lumiere basketball coach Alan Huss said. “I thought we guarded pretty well and we outrebounded them even though we were a lot smaller.”
West Oaks found success early in the post. 6-foot-10 junior forward Danius Chatkevius converted tough layups on the blocks. He scored six points in the first half and would finish with 12 points.
Sophomore guard Maitre Richardson had a team-high 14 points for the Flame, who were 18-of-51 from the field.
West Oaks had a tough time converting from long distance. The Flame went 1-of-10 from three point range. Haroldas Saprykinas made the lone 3-pointer for West Oaks. He also had 11 points.
West Oaks senior guard and Texas A&M commit Sidy Ndir also had a tough shooting night. Ndir was 3-of-9 from the field, 0-for-3 from three point range and had nine points.
“We were just dead from last night,” West Oak basketball coach Shaun Wiseman said. “They had more lively legs than us and they played a really good game. We missed a lot of easy shots around the blocks. We struggled today, but we can’t let this affect us going down the road.”
