Kernel boys take fourth in Pierre

PIERRE -- The Mitchell Kernel boys golf team improved Tuesday off its first event of the season by four strokes.

Mitchell carded a 322 at the Pierre Invitational, good enough for fourth place. There were 12 teams competing and Rapid City Stevens took first with a 300.

Mitchell senior Jacob Rice finished in eighth and was the Kernels' top finisher. Rice had a 76, while Pierre's Austin Hoss won the meet with a 71.

Landon Pooley was next best for Mitchell with a 79. Ryan Solberg carded an 82, Cade Carpenter had a 86, Noah Thompson and Kyle Biggerstaff each finished with a 90.

The Winner Warriors finished 12th in the team race and were led by Lucas Jedlicki, who carded a 90.

The Kernels are back in action on Friday when they travel to compete in the Huron Invitational. Winner will compete in the Chamberlain Invite on Sept. 4
