KCCR: Earthquake rocks Pierre-Fort Pierre area
An earthquake of 3.4 magnitude rocked the Pierre-Fort Pierre Tuesday afternoon, according to a report by KCCR radio.
Julie Dutton of the USGS told the radio station that no major damage was reported from the earthquake reported at about 2:30 p.m. The tremor shook buildings and resulted in a loud boom, and people came out of homes to check what happened, according to KCCR.
Dutton told the station that the epicenter was one mile west of Pierre and one mile northeast of Fort Piere.
While Dutton told the station that there is always a possibility of aftershocks, she says most of these earthquakes are single, isolated shocks.
