Karen was born on August 21, 1939 to Alva and Clara Wiebers in Vermillion, SD. She grew up in Centerville, SD where she attended school and graduated from Centerville High School. She received her Bachelor's Degree at Southern State Teacher's College in Springfield, SD and her Master's Degree at the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.
Karen married Dale L. Hofwolt in Centerville on June 21, 1962. Karen was a dedicated teacher and elementary principal, spending most of her career in the Lyman County School District. She loved being a part of the kids' lives each day. She and Dale moved to Pierre in 2003. She belonged to the Lutheran Aid, LEA, NEA and NGW Association. She enjoyed reading and watching western movies.
Karen is survived by her husband, Dale, of Presho; three sisters: Clarine (Vern) Thorson, Canton, SD, Sherree (Randy) Gayken, of Sioux Falls, and Margie Wiebers of Sioux Falls; and numerous nieces and nephews; and many students whose lives she touched over the years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alva and Clara.
