Jury deliberations underway in manslaughter trial
RAPID CITY (AP) -- A jury will begin deliberations Monday in the manslaughter trial of a man accused of shooting another man to death in a Rapid City motel parking lot early this year.
Thirty-year-old Charles Birdshead is charged with felony first-degree manslaughter and two weapons charges in the shooting death of 33-year-old Eustacio Maruffo on Jan. 7.
Authorities say Marruffo died of a shotgun blast to the chest during a botched drug deal. Birdshead argues he was lured to the motel for a beating and that he acted in self-defense.
