Judge denies cameras, recorders in Huron rape trial
HURON (AP) -- A South Dakota judge has ruled that news organizations will not be allowed to use audio recording devices in the courtroom during the trial of a Huron bar owner accused of raping a 12-year-old girl and two 14-year-olds after serving them alcohol.
Prosecutors allege that 35-year-old Werner Fajardo provided alcohol to the three girls at his El Cuervo Bar and assaulted them. He has pleaded not guilty, and his trial is scheduled to begin Aug. 15.
Circuit Judge Jon Erickson ruled last week that television cameras would not be allowed in the courtroom during the trial.
The media reports that Erickson has now denied a request to open the trial to audio recording.
Erickson had allowed audio and video in two prior cases.
