John R. Morehead

John R. Morehead, 64, of Spencer, SD passed away suddenly at his home in Spencer on May 8, 2014. Funeral services are planned for Tuesday, May 13 at 10:00 am at Kinzley Funeral Home in Salem. Visitation will be from 9 am until 8 pm on Monday evening with family present from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.

John Morehead was born on February 11, 1950 to Harold and Edna Ione (Brown) Morehead in Mitchell, SD. He was raised by Alan and Pauline (deceased) Miiller in Mt.Vernon. He grew up in the Spencer area and on January 15, 1971 he married Sue Stuby. Together they raised their three children as well as foster children. John worked at the elevator in Mt. Vernon at the time of his death.

John was a member of the Mt. Vernon Fire Department. Enjoyed hunting pheasants and ducks in younger years with his kids, also hunted deer and fished when he had a free moment. He loved to ride his Harley Davidson with his loving bride on the back. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren baseball games and school programs. His grandkids were his pride and joy, as his license plate on his Harley could tell you with the initials of them as his plates. He also loved his furry friends Jake the dog and Squeaky and Patches his kitties.

He is survived by his wife, Sue of Spencer; his children, Troy (Tammy) of Soldotna, AK, Tanya (Brian) Schock and Mike all of Salem; two foster children, Melvin Cadotte of Sioux Falls, SD and Rikkie Keehn of Tea, SD; five grandchildren and three step-grandchildren; his brothers, Henry James, Roger, Ronnie, and Eugene; his sisters, Liz (Bud) Cooper, Carol (Virgil) Spaans, and Alice Morehead; and a sister-in-law, Linda Morehead. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Delphia and Troy Stuby, and a brother, Burton.
