Jean Holter, 88, of Platte, SD passed away Monday, January 27, 2014 at the Platte Care Center. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 31, 2014 at the First Reformed Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at the Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 P.M. Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Mount Funeral Home in Platte with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.

Jean Lucille (DeJong) Holter was born on September 3, 1925 in Orange City, Iowa to Tom and Emma (Pranger) DeJong. She lived her entire life in Platte, SD, attended school and graduated from Platte High School in 1943. She went on to work for a time at the Farmers & Merchants State Bank in Platte after graduation. On April 4, 1945 she was united in marriage to Ivan Holter in Platte, to this union two children, Deanna and Tom, were born.

She was a member of many organizations in Platte, such as the Womens Club, Legion Auxiliary and RCW of the First Reformed Church where she also sang in the choir and taught Sunday School.

Upon retirement, she and Ivan wintered in Arizona for over 25 years where they were very active in their mobile home community. She especially liked to play shuffleboard and won many trophies over the years. Jean also enjoyed entertaining their friends and family when they came from out of town.

Grateful for having shared in Jeans life: her husband of more than 68 years, Ivan Holter of Platte, SD; her daughter, Deanna and husband, Hal Warner of Plano, Texas; her son, Tom and wife, Pattie Holter of Tucson, Arizona; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Shirley Rougemont; two sisters-in-law: Adele Holter and Inez Holter; along with many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers-in-law; and a sister-in-law.
