Howard site gets $800,000 award
Howard's Horizon Health Care, Inc. has received $800,000 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to establish a new health delivery site.
According to the federal Health Resources and Services Administration, health centers are community-based and patient-directed organizations that serve populations with limited access to health care.
Friday, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced awards of approximately $67 million to the nation's health centers, including $19 million made available by the Affordable Care Act, to establish 32 new health service delivery sites.
According to the HHS, these new sites will increase access to preventive and primary health care to more than 130,000 additional people. Additionally, $48 million will be awarded to nearly 1,200 of the nation's health centers to support ongoing operations and quality improvement activities.
Horizon Health Care Inc. has been providing medical, dental and mental health care through a rural, community-based network of 17 community health centers throughout South Dakota for 35 years.
