If you couldn’t make it home for the holidays, don’t worry — the party isn’t quite over yet.

Carm Roster, manager of the Area Community Theatre in Mitchell, said the annual variety show formerly known as Home for the Holidays has been given a fresh look with a new name and a new date.

Now known as the Winter Extravaganza, this year’s event will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre in Mitchell. Tickets are $10, reserved seats, and are available at mitchellact.org or 996-9137.

Half of the ticket proceeds go to the Mitchell Animal Rescue, Roster said. She estimated this to be the fourth year the ACT has chosen a local organization to benefit from ticket sales, which she said adds to the appeal of the event.

“People like to support local talent, because it gives them something to get out and socialize, and do something good for a local organization,” she said.

Though the event, which she estimated has been held for more than a decade, is typically held in December, Roster said the typical frenetic pace of this year’s holiday season inspired the idea for the change.

“We figured there was so much stuff going on before Christmas,” Roster said. “We decided to move it to January and give it a new name, because it’s after the holidays.”

The variety show boasts all local talent, and this year includes 15 performers, Roster said. She said the acts range from singing and dancing to instrumentals, cowboy poetry and skits.

“It’s a little bit of everything,” she said.

Roster said event organizers typically try to keep the show at or under two hours in length; this year’s should be right at two hours. Because the event is no longer being held prior to Christmas, Roster said they no longer asked for acts to be holiday-themed.

In addition to a new time and name, Roster said there will be dessert. She said since there will not be a Ladies Night Out, the dessert that would be served is being folded into the evening, with Perkins pies served at intermission. The pie is included in the ticket price.

This year’s performers are Devin Carey, Dayna Jones, AJ Krumholz, Joe Morgan, Paul and Twyla Mah, Cindy Novachich, Samantha Menning, Ashley Klinkhammer, Gale Patzlaff, Calli Mah and Jennifer Olinger.
