High school volleyball roundup: Wagner downs MV/P in straight sets

MOUNT VERNON -- The No. 1-ranked Wagner Red Raiders proved to be too much for Mount Vernon/Plankinton Monday night in high school volleyball action as Wagner defeated the Titans in straight sets. Set scores were 25-20, 25-15, 25-11.

Wagner, Class A's top-rated team, was led by seniors Nicole Weber, Sydney Breen and Jessa Doom. Weber recorded 10 kills in the win, Breen had 22 digs and Doom finished with 30 assists. Junior Alex Dvorak led the team with four blocks.

For Mount Vernon/Plankinton, Mikayla Weiss had 10 assists, Haley Hinker had nine digs and Megan Bultsma finished with five kills. The Titans won the JV match 2-1.

Wagner (20-2) takes on Parkston today in Wagner, while Mount Vernon/Plankinton (10-9) faces Tripp-Delmont/Armour today in Tripp.

McCook Central/Montrose 3, Canistota 0

SALEM -- Anna Olinger recorded four aces, nine kills and five digs as McCook Central/Montrose defeated Canistota in straight sets in high school volleyball action Monday in Salem. Set scores were 25-17, 25-11, 25-14.

Laura Klaudt led the Fighting Cougars in assists with 17, she also finished with seven digs and two aces. Jean Skoglund had seven kills, nine digs and two aces. Dana Kirby had 12 assists, four digs and two aces.

Jenny Hofer and Lexy Sandman each had three kills for Canistota. Hofer also had six blocks, while Brianna Buseman finished with a match-high six blocks. Sydney Randall recorded nine digs.

McCook Central/Montrose, which also won the JV match, improved to 7-13 with the win and takes on Garretson today in Montrose. Canistota (5-16) takes on Freeman today in Canistota.

Platte-Geddes 3, Corsica/Stickney 1

PLATTE -- Kelly Knudson tallied 15 kills, 12 digs and three aces to help lead Platte-Geddes to a 3-1 win over Corsica/Stickney in high school volleyball action Monday in Platte. Set scores were 25-6, 22-25, 25-20, 25-11.

Kelli Sprik had 26 assists and nine digs in the win, while Shelby Rabenberg recorded 11 kills, nine digs and three aces, Josie DeGroot had six kills and three digs, Madi Whalen had four kills and four digs and Maddy Tegethoff had nine digs.

Jackie Dethlefsen recorded six kills, one block, three digs and four aces for Corsica/Stickney. Kara Prien had six kills and seven digs, Brianna Kuyper had 14 assists, eight digs and three aces and Missy Johnson finished with 11 digs.

Platte-Geddes, which also won the JV match, improved to 12-5 and takes on Miller today in Miller. Corsica/Stickney dropped to 7-11 and takes on Bon Homme Thursday in Corsica.

Miller 3, Kimball 0

KIMBALL -- Miller took down Kimball in straight sets Monday night in high school volleyball action in Kimball. Set scores were 25-17, 25-13, 25-23.

Mary Kroupa had 12 assists, eight digs and three aces for Kimball. Lindsay Olson had five kills, Haley Pazour had five kills and 13 digs and Brooklyn Donald tallied three blocks.

Miller won the JV match and improved to 12-9 on the season. Miller takes on Platte-Geddes today in Miller. Kimball (4-14) takes on Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Thursday in Kimball.

Colman-Egan 3, Bridgewater-Emery 1

COLMAN -- Colman-Egan defeated Bridgewater-Emery 3-1 in high school volleyball action Monday in Colman. Set scores were 25-22, 27-25, 20-25, 25-18.

No stats were reported despite attempts to reach coaches.
