Herrick advances to 152-pound finals at Class A state tournament
Mitchell’s Alex Herrick (152) beat Rapid City Stevens wrestler Bailey Konvalin in the Class A state wrestling tournament Saturday.
Mitchell's Ethan Parr (145) and Landon Neugebauer (138) each advanced to third place matches tonight. Parr earned a 5-3 overtime win over Casey Skllingstad in the 3rd round of wrestlebacks, then a 2-1 decision over Nick Hanson of Brookings with a third period reversal to reach the third-place match. Neugebauer clawed his way to a couple of one-point decisions to reach the third-place match. Neugebauer defeated Pierre's Spencer Sarringar 5-4 in the 3rd round of wrestlebacks, before beating Kyle Yasgar of Sioux Falls Roosevelt.
Kernel wrestlers Matt Larson (160) and Tyson Sprinkel (195) will wrestle for fifth-place tonight after going 1-1 in wrestlebacks in the first session. Larson got a 10-0 major decision victory over Tyrelle Anthony of Sisseton, before falling to Sioux Falls Washington's Luke Reiter. Sprinkel beat Rapic City Central's Zach Schneider 7-2 in the 3rd round of wrestlebacks, but fell to Jordan Hunt of Douglas in the next round.
Heading into the second session, Mitchell is in 10th place with 72 points. Aberdeen Central leads the tournament with 166.50 points.
