Herbert W. Gossel, 90, of Kimball, SD passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Avera Queen of Peace Health Services in Mitchell, SD. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Monday, April 14, 2014 at Kimball Protestant Parish. A Committal Service will follow at Kimball Community Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Sunday, April 13, 2014 from 5:00 7:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service. Memorials in Herberts honor may be directed to: Protestant Parish, 301 S. Herbert W. Gossel was born on June 21, 1923 to John and Sophie (Marken) Gossel in Bridgewater, SD and attended Sievers Country School near Bridgewater. He was united in marriage to Frances Friman on March 27, 1951 in Hurley, SD. From this union two sons were born, David and Gary. Herb worked at the Emery Elevator, Spencer Elevator and Christensen Elevator in Kimball before purchasing it on October 1, 1971 to start the Kimball Grain Co. with his sons. His love for his work shown through each day.
On August 6, 1976 Herbert was united in marriage to Adeline Hantke Brearley in Nashua, IA expanding his family with the addition of three step-children, Richard, Barbara and Loren. Herb was a member of Kimball Protestant Parish and belonged to the Kimball Senior Citizens.
Grateful for having shared in Herbs life: his two sons: David Gossel and Gary Gossel both of Kimball, SD; two step-children: Barbara (Michael) Crandell of Sioux Falls, SD and Loren Brearley of Kimball, SD; four grandchildren: Patrick (Jennifer) Crandell, Kathy (Brandon) Metzinger, Matthew Crandell and Kristin (Adam) Moran; six great-grandchildren: Simon and Benjamin Crandell, Trenton and Adlynn Moran, Callum and Blythe Metzinger; a sister, Elaine Heiter of Emery, SD; along with several sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews; and close family friends: Barb Vogel, Kathi Kleinsmith and Kandi Sorenson.
Herb was preceded in death by: his wives: Frances (Sept. 7, 1974) and Adeline (July 27, 2013); his parents, John and Sophie; a sister, Betty; a brother, Lester; and step-son, Richard.
