Helen Tronek, age 92, of Mitchell, SD died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Firesteel Healthcare Center. Funeral service will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel with burial at 4:00 PM at the Dixon Cemetery, Vienna, SD. Visitation will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, July 28, 2014 at the Will Funeral Chapel with a rosary service beginning at 7:00 PM.
Helen M. Tronek was born on January 16, 1922 to George and Elizabeth (Borvicka) Tronek near Platte, SD. She joined a sister, Alice. At the age of 5 years she moved with her family to the Vienna and Hazel area, where she and her sister attended grade school. In 1941, Helen graduated from Hazel High School and then attended Watertown Business College.
After her fathers death in November of 1942, she and her mother moved to the Platte and Kimball area.
Helen attended Notre Dame Jr. College where she received her First Grade Certificate and continued her education at Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, earning her degree in Elementary education.
Helen taught for 40 years in the Kimball, SD area and retired in 1985. She moved from Kimball to Mitchell, where she lived until her death.
She spent her retirement enjoying her flowers, garden, sewing, and the companionship of her dog.
She is survived by her sister, Alice York, Arcadia, CA; a niece, Cindy Burton, and husband Gary, Monrovia, CA; special friends, Jack and Monna McBrayer, Mitchell, SD; her friends from Home Instead Senior Care; and her dog, Missy.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents.
