Heidi Marie Gerlach, 35, of Salem passed away peacefully at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral mass will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, August 5, 2014 at St. Marys Catholic Church in Salem. Visitation will be from 11am -5pm on Tuesday at Kinzley Funeral Home with a 3pm rosary and will resume at 6:30pm at the church with a 7pm rosary and prayer service.

Heidi Gerlach was born on July 18, 1979 to Roger and Bernette (Kolbeck) Gerlach in Sioux Falls, SD. She grew up in Salem and attended St. Marys elementary school before graduating from McCook Central High School in 1997. She then went on to graduate with honors from Colorado Tech in criminal justice as well as obtaining a paralegal degree. On April 21, 2007 she married Hal Coffey and they were blessed with two boys, Elijah and Baron.

Heidi loved cooking, canning and baking as well as gardening. She also enjoyed running and biking with the boys and loved to take them camping.

Heidi is survived by: her two boys, Elijah and Baron of Salem; her parents, Roger and Bernette of Salem; her grandmother, Frances Gerlach of Mitchell, SD; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Louis and Bernadette Kolbeck and Eitel Gerlach.
