Hanson claims volleyball title at B-E tournament

EMERY -- Hanson's high school volleyball team defeated Bridgewater-Emery 25-20, 21-25, 25-23 Saturday in Emery to claim the championship at the Bridgewater-Emery Volleyball Tournament.

Kynedi Cheeseman had 12 kills in the title game to help the Beavers win the tournament. Kendra Cheeseman had 12 assists, Erika Nelson had five blocks, Leah Marsh had five service aces and Abby Kayser and Kelli Wenande each finished with 10 digs.

Hanson advanced to the championship game after defeating Avon 25-21, 25-21 and taking down Sanborn/Central Woonsocket 25-18, 25-22.

Bridgewater-Emery picked up two victories at the event with a 25-22, 25-12 win over Wessington Springs, followed by a 25-22, 13-25, 25-13 victory over Ethan.

In the championship match, Bridgewater-Emery was led by Justine Dye with 18 digs. Aly Hanssen and Chesney Arend each finished with 12 digs, while Tiana Kayser had 11. Mackenzie Schultz led the team with 15 assists, while Mallory Haiar and Kelsey Kotas both finished with a team-high five kills.

In the third-place match, Ethan defeated Sanborn/Central Woonsocket 25-19, 25-17. Ethan also picked up a win over Colman-Egan in the tournament. Set scores were 23-25, 25-15, 25-23. Sanborn Central/Woonsocket won its first match of the day 25-13, 25-17 over Canistota.

On the consolation side of the bracket, Avon defeated Canistota 25-19, 25-8 before taking down Wessington Springs 25-23, 25-21 in the fifth-place match.

Wessington Springs advanced to the fifth-place match with a 25-19, 8-25, 25-23 win over Colman-Egan, which defeated Canistota 31-33, 25-16, 25-17 for seventh-place in the tournament.

Chamberlain wins Big Dakota Conference title

FORT PIERRE -- Chamberlain finished 3-0 Saturday to claim the Big Dakota Conference high school volleyball championship in Fort Pierre.

The Cubs defeated Winner 25-23, 26-24 in the championship match after defeating McLaughlin 25-12, 25-13 and Mobridge-Pollock 27-25, 25-22.

Laura Pazour had nine kills and two blocks in the championship victory, while Kennedy Wagner recorded 13 digs.

Wagner had 10 assists and 15 digs in the semifinals win over Mobridge-Pollock, while Abbey Handel had 11 assists and Alex Pederson had 16 digs.

Wagner falls in title game at Cavalier Clash

TYNDALL -- The Wagner high school volleyball team went 3-0 in Pool A at the Cavalier Clash to advance to the championship bracket, where the Red Raiders defeated Viborg-Hurley and Andes Central before falling to Parker in the championship game.

Nicole Weber had 13 kills and Jessa Doom finished with 28 assists in the championship match. Parker won by set scores of 25-18, 25-23.

To reach the championship bracket, Wagner defeated St. Francis, Beresford and Tripp-Delmont Armour in pool play.

Wagner defeated the Pool D champion Andes Central by scores of 25-16, 25-21 after taking out Pool C runner-up Viborg-Hurley 25-9, 23-25, 25-14 to reach the title game.

Andes Central defeated Parkston, Alcester-Hudson and Vermillion to win its pool. Andes Central advanced to the semifinals by beating the host team and Pool B runner-up Bon Homme.

Bon Homme finished 2-1 in pool play, falling to St. Thomas More 25-13, 23-25, 28-26 before defeating Corsica-Stickney and Gregory.

Lyman beats Bennett County 3-0

PRESHO -- Anna Flitner had 24 digs and 17 kills to lead Lyman over Bennett County in three sets in high school volleyball action Saturday in Presho.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-20, 25-19.

Chesney Garnos also finished the match with 24 digs, while Bailey Almond led the team with 19 assists and four aces.

Lyman improved to 6-4 with the win and takes on Wall Tuesday in Wall.
