Guymon arrested for voter fraud
Mitchell South Dakota 120 South Lawler 57301

The Mitchell Police Division on Wednesday morning reported the arrest Tuesday night of Mitchell resident Craig Guymon, 54, on charges of voter fraud related to Tuesday's Mitchell school board election.

Guymon was arrested for the offense of voting more than once, which according to state law is a felony punishable upon conviction by up to two years imprisonment and a fine of up to $4,000.

A Mitchell Police Division news release says Guymon allegedly voted at the sole polling place at the Mitchell Career and Technical Education Academy, 821 N. Capital St., on Tuesday morning and later returned an absentee ballot to the Davison Auditor's Office in the county courthouse at 200 E. Fourth Ave. in Mitchell on Tuesday afternoon. Absentee voting was allowed until 3 p.m. on Election Day.

The Davison County Auditor's Office followed election procedures, and election process checks-and-balances allowed Auditor Susan Kiepke's office to quickly discover that Guymon had apparently voted twice in the election, said the release.

Guymon has long been known in Mitchell as a vocal critic of school officials. He has made multiple runs for the school board but was not a candidate in Tuesday's election.

Guymon was booked at the Davison County Jail and released on a personal recognizance bond.
