Feds won’t grant permission to finish controversial pipeline, want other routes explored

Golf briefs: Meyerink takes 9th at men's amateur event

SIOUX FALLS -- Jeff Meyerink, of Mitchell, placed ninth at the South Dakota Golf Association's Men's Amateur Championship Sunday in Sioux Falls.

Meyerink shot a three-round total of 212 and was 13 strokes off winner Jesse Talcott.

Arron Lickteig, a Freeman High School graduate, won the first flight with a 212, while Jake Weber, of Parkston, finished eighth in the third flight with a score of 227.

Area golfers place at women's amateur event

HARTFORD -- Several area golfers placed in their flights at the South Dakota Golf Association's Women's Amateur Championship Sunday in Hartford.

In the championship flight, Lauren Fitts, who is Dakota Wesleyan University's top women's golfer, took seventh with a three-round total of 237. Jordan Bormann took 10th with a total of 241. Hallie Getz, of Pierre, won after shooting a 225.

In the first flight, Kristin Sabers, of Mitchell, finished second with a score of 241. Sydney Bormann was fifth with a 244.

Patty Coddington, of Sioux Falls, won the women's senior championship.

Pelzel to be inducted into SDGA Hall

Steve Pelzl, of Aberdeen, will become the 47th person to be inducted into the South Dakota Golf Association Hall of Fame during a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Aberdeen.

Pelzel is a three-time winner of the SDGA Senior Two-Man Championship and five-time runner-up in the SDGA Senior Championship.
