Gavins Point Dam boating restrictions to remain
YANKTON (AP) -- The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans to maintain some of the boating restrictions below Gavins Point Dam in South Dakota that were put in place during last year's Missouri River flooding.
The restrictions close additional space below the dam when the corps runs water through the spillway. Corps officials cite boater safety as the reason. The restrictions affect boats but not shore fishing.
Some recreationists say the restrictions are no longer needed, will take away prime fishing spots and will hurt the regional economy.
