DWU’s Van Essen wins triple jump By The Daily Republic

ORANGE CITY, Iowa — Dakota Wesleyan University track and field athlete Isaac Van Essen took first place at the Red Raider Open Thursday.

Van Essen leaped 6.39 meters, beating out Southwest Minnesota’s T.J. Dean, who finished second with a jump of 6.29.

Wesleyan’s Dan Porter finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.02 meters. Porter also took fifth in the men’s triple jump with a jump of 12.72 meters.

Abby Fossum, Jessica Fossum and Ariana Arampatzis also earned top-five finishes. Abby took fifth in the women’s triple jump with a leap of 10.1 meters. Jessica finished fourth in the women’s heptathlon and Arampatzis was fifth. Fossum had 3,239 points, while Arampatzis had 3,143.

Platte-Geddes, Fiscel win Scotland/Avon Invite By The Daily Republic

SCOTLAND — The Platte-Geddes girls golf team won the Scotland/Avon Girls Golf Invite Thursday in Scotland with a team score of 319, topping second-place Irene-Wakonda by five strokes.

Nikki Nelson was the top finisher for the Black Panthers, taking fifth with a 100.

Scotland’s Maggie Fiscel took the individual title with an 82, six strokes better than second-place finisher Sydney Benter, of Burke/South Central.
