Byrd wins Big Dakota Conference golf tournament

CHAMBERLAIN — Chamberlain’s Brigitte Byrd shot a 42 on the back nine to finish with a 90 and win the Big Dakota Conference golf tournament Thursday.

Byrd shot a 48 on the front nine, trailing Mobridge/Pollock’s Chelsy Hoffman and Emily Dale by three strokes. Hoffman went on to shoot a 91 and finish second, while Dale finished with a 95 for third place.

Mobridge/Pollock won the team title with a score of 294. Chamberlain finished second with 321 and Winner took third with 324.

Ethan’s Bartscher signs with Mount Marty basketball

ETHAN — Ethan High School senior point guard Blake Bartscher has signed to play basketball for Mount Marty College next fall, it was announced Thursday.

Bartscher led the Rustlers to a fourth-place finish in the Class B state tournament last month. He averaged 18.7 points, 3.2 rebounds and 7.5 assists in 2013-14.

For the Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan football team, Bartscher played quarterback and earned all-state honors as a senior, helping lead the Seahawks to the 2013 Class 9AA state title.

MCM’S Cleveland wins 400 at Tri-Valley

COLTON — McCook Central/Montrose’s Tyler Cleveland took first-place in the 400-meter dash at the Tri-Valley Booster Track Invitational Thursday.

Cleveland crossed the finish line in 54.2 seconds, edging teammate Anthony Tuschen, who finished second with a time of 54.8.

Cleveland was the only Fighting Cougar to win an individual title Thursday. The MCM boys finished fifth in the team standings, while the MCM girls finished sixth. Sioux Falls Christian won the girls title, while Dell Rapids claimed the boys title.
