Mad Dogs beat Chamberlain

The Mitchell Mad Dogs amateur baseball team beat Chamberlain 16-9 on Thursday at Cadwell Park.

Jamie Huber pitched four innings and struck out one batter to pick up the win for the Mad Dogs, who improved to 3-0 on the season.

Kyle Larson hit a two-run home run and Billy Hamilton had five hits -- including a double -- and scored twice for Mitchell. Jason Skinner had four hits for the Mad Dogs, who play the Sioux Falls Saints at 6 p.m. today at Harmondon Park in Sioux Falls.

Mike Schwartz took the loss on the mound for Chamberlain.

Wesleyan signs overseas standout

Max Bell, of Hersham, Surrey, United Kingdom, will join the Dakota Wesleyan University men's golf team, it was announced earlier this week.

Bell comes to DWU from Rydens Secondary School in Walton-on-Thams, Surrey. He played soccer and cricket as well as golf for the school. He competes for the Burhill Golf Club in amateur and under-18 events.

Nebelsick headed to Morningside

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- Morningside men's basketball coach Jim Sykes announced that Mount Vernon's Jon Nebelsick will join the team for the 2011-12 season.

Nebelsick is a 6-foot, 4-inches forward and earned Class B second team all-state honors after averaging 16.5 points per game and eight rebounds per game. He scored over 1,000 career points.

Miller misses practice to be with expectant wife

MIAMI, Fla. -- According to Miami Heat beat reporter Ira Winderman, Mitchell native and current Heat player Mike Miller was given Friday off practice to be with his wife, who was expecting a child.

Miller is in his first season with the Heat and played 18 minutes -- Miller's longest stint on the court this postseason -- in Miami's Game 2 win of the Eastern Conference Finals over the Chicago Bulls. Game 3 is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sunday.

Hanson County to play in Flandreau

Hanson County is scheduled to play Chester-Colman-Egan-Flandreau in the second round in the Region 2B high school baseball playoffs at 2 p.m. Sunday in Flandreau.

The start of the game on Sunday could be moved due to weather. If the game cannot be played Sunday, it will be moved to 6 p.m. Monday.
