Friday area football roundup: Winner beats Chamberlain

Nathan Galbraith led on the ground for Winner, which is the third-ranked team in the Class 11B preseason poll, with six carries for 78 yards and two touchdowns. Jaden Schroeder had 69 yards on two carries, while Sam Naasz carried the ball four times for 52 yards.
Jake Wranek led the Warriors, who had 301 total yards, in tackles with four. Chamberlain was led defensively by Parker Evans with two tackles.
Chamberlain’s Hunter Hallock had one completion for nine yards. Chris Schwartz had a 24-yard kick return in the game.
Winner (1-0) plays at Bon Homme Friday, while Chamberlain (0-1) plays at Valentine, Neb.

Wagner 22, Tri-Valley 14
COLTON — The Wagner Red Raiders upset Class 11B top-ranked Tri-Valley 22-14 in the season opener Friday.
Wagner didn’t receive any votes in the preseason poll and had 312 total yards.
David Kocer had 22 carries for 100 yards, while Dylan Brunsing completed 8 for 16 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns. Noah St. Pierre led all receivers with three receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Trevor Lensing led defensively with eight tackles for Wagner.
Austin Van Asselt had 18 carries for 129 yards to lead Tri-Valley, which racked up 312 total yards. Nick Buchmann had 17 carries for 122 yards and one touchdown, while Clark Haugen had a two-yard touchdown run in the loss.

Gregory 43, Colome 22
COLOME — The Gregory Gorillas defeated Colome 43-22 to open the season Friday.
The Gorillas second in the Class 9AA preseason poll, while Colome was the top-ranked team in Class 9A. Colome led 22-20 at halftime.
Terrance Kinzer had 20 carries for 158 yards and three touchdowns. Chase Hrabanek had seven carries for 27 yards. Kinzer was 8-of-12 passing for 103 yards and had two interceptions. Lane Fawcett had four receptions for 44 yards. Reed Harter had three catches for 39 yards and Holden Thieman had one catch for 20 yards.
Kinzer had 14 tackles, Fawcett had 10 and Zack Ekberg had seven.
For Gregory, Kurt Braun had 16 carries for 183 yards and three touchdowns. He was 2-for-8 in passing for 56 yards and one touchdown. Brody Boes had two receptions 56 yards and one touchdown in the win.
Brandon Warnke had 17 tackles, Jonah Beck had 11 and Braun had six tackles and one interception for the Gorillas.

BONESTEEL — The Avon football team started the season strong with a 38-7 victory over Burke/South Central Friday.
Avon recorded 296 total yards, while Burke/South Central had 159.
For Avon, Brandon Kocmich had nine rushes for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Avon did not have any passing yards. Devin Tolsma led defensively with 12 tackles for Avon.
For Burke/South Central, Turner Serr had 17 carries for 57 yards and had one touchdown. Zach Sebern completed 6 for 16 passes for 85 yards. Jordan Jones had two catches for 35 yards.
Serr led the Cougars defensively with 12 tackles.

PLATTE — The Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian football scored 12 fourth-quarter points to top Freeman 20-14.
The Blank Panthers had 201 rushing yards, while Freeman rushed for 112 yards.
Tate Wagner completed 6 for 11 passes for 82 yards and one touchdown for the Black Panthers. Carter Dykstra had seven carries for 58 yards, while Nate Spawn had 12 attempts for 75 yards and one touchdown.
Canistota 32, Hanson 12
CANISTOTA — Top-ranked Canistota defeated Hanson 32-12 in its home opener Friday in Canistota.
Shay Jolley led offensively for 9 for 10 passes for 208 yards and three touchdowns. Jerad Nielsen had five receptions for 117 yards. Nick Hofer had 16 carries for 182 yards for the Hawks, who had 494 total yards.
Carson Hofer led defensively with 6.5 tackles.

GAYVILLE — Corsica/Stickney running back Mason Van Vuuren had 202 rushing yards and three touchdowns on seven carries to lead Corsica/Stickney to a 52-12 victory over Gayville-Volin Friday.
All three of Van Vuuren’s runs went for more than 30 yards. His first came in the first quarter when he struck pay dirt from 61 yards away. He scored again in the second quarter on a 39-yard run and 89-yard run.
The Jaguars finished with 424 rushing yards as a team. Bailey Lagge was the Jaguars’ second leading rusher. He had one carry for 55 yards and a touchdown.
Gayville-Volin’s points came from touchdown runs from Garrett Hirsch and Zach Anderson.
Hirsch scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter, while Anderson had a 65-yard run in the third.
Corsica/Stickney (1-0) and Gayville-Volin (0-1) have a bye next week.

GROTON — Parkston defeated Groton Area 21-0 Friday.
The Trojans scored touchdowns in the second, third and fourth quarters to earn their first victory of the season.
Parkston scored its first touchdown of the game on a 20-yard run from Wes Dvorak. Dvorak finished the game with 36 yards rushing.
Miles Semmler led the Trojans on the ground with 60 yards rushing. Mitch Heisinger had 55 yards on the ground
Heisinger led the Trojans in tackles with 10 and Austin Bertram was second with eight.

TYNDALL — The Bon Homme Cavaliers had four turnovers en route to dropping their season opener to Canton 36-21 Friday.
Bon Homme lost three fumbles and had an interception. The turnovers gave Canton the opportunity to score points and neutralize the Bon Homme attack.
Canton scored five touchdowns, including two runs by Gabe Dolen. Dolen scored an 8-yard touchdown in the second and 5-yard run in the third.
Chase Kortan led the Cavaliers. He had 61 yards rushing, including a 34-yard run for a touchdown. Austin Kaul also finished with two touchdowns, including a 26-yard fumble recovery. Kaul had nine tackels and Hunter Young had 11 tackles.
Bon Homme (0-1) plays Winner Friday in Tyndall.

LAKE ANDES — Hazen Winckler recovered four fumbles for Andes Central leading to a 38-14 win over Tripp-Delmont/Armour Friday.
The Eagles had one more fumble recovery from Reno Long in addition to a blocked punt by Darren Hopkins and an interception by Joey Evans. Andes Central’s defense was led by Zach Cournoyer and Kyle Bice. Cournoyer had 11 tackles while Bice had eight. Tripp-Delmont/Armour was led by Gunnar Dalley, who had 118 yards on the ground and 12 tackles on defense.

CENTERVILLE — Centerville scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and one touchdown in the third quarter to defeat Scotland 20-0 Friday.
The Scotland offense went stagnant after starting quarterback Shaye Bloch got hurt in the second series of the game. Bloch injured his knee.
Scotland was led by Tim Bodden and Bronson Baker. Bodden had 52 yards rushing and Baker had 23 yards.
Defensively for Scotland, Dan Stibral had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery, Anthony Walloch had 11 tackles and Seth Ireland had four tackles and an interception.

PRESHO — Stanley County scored the opening touchdown of the game, but didn’t score again as Lyman went on to win 30-8 Friday.
Trey Mundlien led Lyman with 170 passing yards and three touchdowns. Harley Hoogendoorn hauled in two catches for 93 yards and two touchdowns, including one for 50 yards in the second quarter. Korder Cropsey had 19 rushes for 143 yards and one rushing touchdown and one receiving touchdown. Cropsey along with Bryce Janise led Lyman in tackles with 11.
