Freeman man injures arm in mowing mishap
FREEMAN -- A Freeman man whose left arm was seriously injured in a mowing accident Friday is recovering in a Sioux Falls hospital. Elrod Kaufman, described as a man in his 70s, was mowing hay at 2:55 p.m. Friday on his farm about one mile southeast of Freeman when the accident occurred, Freeman police officer Maurice Waltner said.
Details on how the accident occurred are lacking, but Kaufman was reportedly working alone when it happened, Waltner said.
"A bystander who works at a nearby rendering plant saw him lying in his field, carried him back to the road and called for help." A Freeman ambulance took Kaufman to the hospital in Freeman. Kaufman's condition was stabilized and he was flown to Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. Officials at the hospital declined to release an update on Kaufman's condition.
