Four injured in crash near Canistota
CANISTOTA -- Four people were injured Friday evening after the vehicle they were riding in struck a tractor and crashed in the ditch.
Virginia Luke, 58, of Wagner, was driving a Chrysler Town & Country minivan east on Highway 42 near Canistota when she tried to pass a John Deere tractor. Oncoming traffic forced her to move back into her lane, said Capt. Kevin Joffer, of the South Dakota Highway Patrol. As she moved back into her lane, the van struck the rear end of the tractor, and the van went into the ditch.
The driver of the tractor, Bernard Stockwell, 24, of Parker, was not injured.
Luke and three minor children in the van suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries and were transported by Humboldt Ambulance to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls. All were wearing seat belts or proper child restraints, Joffer said.
Charges are pending against Luke for careless driving.
