Former Village Bowl worker charged with stealing from bowling alley
Mitchell South Dakota 120 South Lawler 57301

A Mitchell man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing $1,600 and a stereo amplifier from Village Bowl in Mitchell.

Jeremiah Christopher Chasteen, 20, is a former employee of Village Bowl and used a code he knew to allegedly open a locked safe and steal the $1,600, a police affidavit says.

Footage of Chasteen's alleged crime was captured by a security camera, which has been retained by the Mitchell Police Division as evidence, the affidavit says.

Police also questioned Chasteen about a pawned stereo amplifier the bowling alley reported stolen. Chasteen allegedly claims he was given the amplifier, but the affidavit notes he used a third party to pawn the amplifier at a local pawn shop.

Chasteen is charged with third-degree burglary, grand theft and petty theft.

He faces a maximum of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine on both the grand theft and burglary charges, and faces an additional 30 days in jail and $500 fine for petty theft.

Chasteen is scheduled to appear in court later this month.
