Fire strikes Mitchell home Friday night
A fire late Friday night at a home along Vincent Place in Mitchell drew a large response from firefighters and other emergency personnel.
The home is east of the Davison County Public Safety Center and south of Bittner Funeral Chapel. Fire, medical and police personnel were all on the scene around midnight. The home is set back from the road and, because of the darkness and the presence of emergency vehicles, was barely visible. What appeared to be extensive damage could be seen along the roof of the home. Smoke filled the air and drifted over a large portion of western Mitchell.
The Daily Republic will report more information about the fire as it becomes available. Ironically, as the fire was raging, the newspaper was sending an edition to press with a story on the front page about a substantial decrease in fires so far this year in Mitchell. Through August, the city has had 44 fewer fires than it did through the same period of 2012.
