Fire destroys rural Montrose home

MONTROSE -- A Montrose couple's home burned to the ground Wednesday afternoon.

The Montrose Fire Department responded to a call around noon that Steve and Tammi Miles' house was on fire 10 miles north of town, said Ellen Head, member of and secretary for the department.

By the time the fire department arrived on scene, the roof was already gone, she said.

"It was engulfed so the only option was to let it burn up," she said.

Tammi Miles was at work in Sioux Falls and Steve Miles, a farmer, was not home. The cause of the fire was not immediately determined.

There were no injuries, Head said, and firefighters remained on the scene until 4 p.m.

The Humboldt Fire Department assisted on the scene. The McCook County Sheriff's Office also responded.
