SPEARFISH (AP) -- The chief federal district court judge in South Dakota is talking about prejudice in the Black Hills during a speech at Black Hills State University on Tuesday.

Jeffrey Viken's presentation at 7 p.m. will discuss the history of Native American and non-Native American people in the region and discuss ways both can coexists in the Black Hills.

Viken was appointed chief judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota by President Obama. He was sworn in on Sept. 30, 2009.

Viken's speech is part of BHSU's Madeline A. Young Distinguished Speaker Series. It is free and open to the public.
