Rapid City Evelyn Stewart, 90, died Thursday, May 29, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Center in New Underwood.
Evelyn Lorraine Waters was born October 10, 1923 to Lester and Libby [Smith] Waters at Hawkeye Ranch at Artesian, SD. The eldest of 8 children, she attended country schools and graduated from Fedora High School in 1942.
She was united in marriage to Clyde Kenneth Stewart at Pipestone, MN on October 23, 1942. They resided in Tyler, MN, Artesian, Fedora, SD and Carthage, SD before moving to Rapid City in 1969. She was employed at South Dakota School of Mines for 24 years, retiring when she was 70 years old.
She was also a life-long member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed going camping with Clyde and Michelle, going for drives through the Black Hills, eating out, and loved her desserts, coffee and chocolate.
Evelyn is survived by two daughters: Bev [husband Jim] Hoey and Lana Likness both of Rapid City; one grandchild: Master Sergeant Michelle Wilson; several grand-dogs; two sisters: Darlene of WY and Audrey of Rapid City, SD; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clyde in 1988, two sisters and three brothers.
Funeral service were at 10:00 am Monday, June 2 at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Burial was at Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis
