Eudora Vanderboom, 87, of Platte, SD passed away Monday, November 11, 2013 at the Platte Care Center. Memorial Services are 11:00 A.M. Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Olive Presbyterian Church in Platte.
Eudora was born on December 29, 1925 to Edward and Dorothy (Huisman) Determan in Bridgewater, SD. She was a member of Olive Presbyterian Church and a sixty year member of P.E.O. She attended Alexandria High School, graduating in 1943 and then attended South Dakota Beauty School. She worked as a beautician in Canistota, SD where she met Ilo Vanderboom, who had just returned from WWII. They were married on May 20th, 1949.
They moved to Platte and started Booms Caf. In 1959 they opened Booms Drive-In in Platte and eventually in Wagner and Parkston. They operated Booms until 1990 but both Eudora and Ilo continued working at Booms.
Eudora and Ilo loved Platte and were instrumental in raising money for the renovation of the Community Building and for other projects in Platte. She was an excellent gardener and cook.
Eudora is survived by her three children, nine grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren: Nancy Walstad, Platte, (Lynn & Sindle), Steve (Julie) Vanderboom, Medina, MN, (Nick & Jake) and Jim (Susan) Vanderboom, Platte (Tina, Terry, Tami, Toby, & Tana); brothers, Louis and Richard; sisters, Phyllis Hildebrand and Pricilla (Jan) Wagner; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ilo (Feb. 23, 2009); her parents; her sister, Joan; and two brothers, Cleo and Danny.
