Ethan girls top Mitchell Christian 47-35

Defense was key for the Ethan girls’ basketball team as it defeated Mitchell Christian 47-35 Thursday at Mitchell Christian School.

The Rustlers (10-3) recorded 11 steals and forced MCS to commit 13 turnovers.

“Ethan is a good team and we knew it,” MCS girls basketball coach Jackie Van Laecken said. “Our shooting was off tonight and that affected us and they defended us well.”

Ethan was led by a trio of double figure scorers. Darbi Gustafson had a team-high 14 points and four rebounds for the Rustlers.

Rachel Hawkins chipped in with 12 points and five assists, while Ellie Hohn had 10 points. Kacey Bartscher added nine points and three steals for Ethan.

The Golden Eagles (12-2) were led by Cassidy Graham, who scored 14 points. Ashley Schmit added eight points, while Alexa Van Laecken had seven points and six assists.

Ethan hosts Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Monday in Ethan, while MCS hosts Mount Vernon/Plankinton Tuesday at Mitchell Christian School.
