Colorado, Iowa, Montana and North Dakota saw modest gains in membership from 2011 to 2012, with the remaining dioceses in the Episcopal Church’s Province 6 — Nebraska, North Dakota, Wyoming and South Dakota — experiencing decreases ranging from less than 1 to more than 4 percent.
South Dakota’s membership decreased by 426 members, from 9,876 to 9,450, the largest numerical and percentage decreases in the province’s dioceses, according to the survey.
Sperling’s Best Places lists the Episcopal Church as the ninth largest denomination in the state with 1.15 percent of the population.
