DWU women fall to No. 6 Roosevelt
La CROSSE, Wis. — The Dakota Wesleyan University women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Friday in an 89-74 defeat to No. 6 Roosevelt University in the Viterbo Classic.
The Tigers (3-1) struggled in the first half, shooting 39.4 percent from the field and falling behind 50-32 at halftime. Roosevelt (3-1) shot 48.6 percent in the first half.
DWU came out firing in the second half, shooting 51.4 percent from the field for 45.6 percent in the contest. The Tigers outscored Roosevelt 42-39 in the second half but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit.
Roosevelt, which shot 44.3 percent from the field, had four players with double-digit scoring figures as Erin McCaslin and Maria Tamburrino led the way with 18 points apiece. Casey Davis had 16 points and Becky Williford had 13.
The Tigers were led by Katie Johnson with a team-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Celeste Beck knocked down 13 points with three 3-pointers and Kim Johnson had 12 points and a team-best five assists in the loss. Micaela Erickson, Amanda Hart and Kristin Sabers each had eight points.
DWU is back in action today as it takes on Bethel College in the Viterbo Classic at 1 p.m.
