DWU students receive awards at NSASD
Four Dakota Wesleyan University nursing students were recently honored at the Nursing Student Association of South Dakota convention in Aberdeen.
Sara Deinert, a bachelor of science nursing student from Mount Vernon, won the Naoma Jackson Nursing Student Leadership and Action Award, which is given in memory of Naoma Jackson, a nursing student who was fatally injured while a student nurse. Deinert entered a 500-word essay that garnered her the award, which is given to a nursing student who has strong leadership and educational goals and is dedicated to overcoming obstacles in order to become a nurse. This is the second year in a row that a DWU student has been honored this award.
Also, three DWU students will serve on the state board next year: first vice president, Renee Schroeder, Alexandria; community health chairman, Deinert; and resolutions chairman, Alexis Reiners, Hurley.
Jonilyn Rinehart, Freeman, represented DWU as the outstanding nursing student candidate.
