Drive-in theater announcement planned
An announcement regarding the future of the Starlite Drive-In movie theater in Mitchell will be issued Tuesday by Jeff Logan, owner of Logan Luxury Theatres.
Logan was questioned about the drive-in Monday by The Daily Republic, following a tip to the newspaper.
Logan said the drive-in normally closes every fall, but he declined further comment on the drive-in's future or rumors about a permanent closure at the end of the season. He said more information will be released Tuesday.
Logan did say that the drive-in will remain open through this season.
The drive-in was reopened 20 years ago after Logan Luxury Theatres purchased the old Lake Vue Drive-In in 1976. The Starlite, which is located on the northern edge of Mitchell, is believed to be one of only six remaining drive-in theaters operating in South Dakota.
