Parkston Dorothy Ellen Long, 90, died Sunday, October 20 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. Funeral mass will be Wednesday, October 23 at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Visitation will be Tuesday, October 22 from 4 to 6 pm with a 5:30 pm prayer service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Parkston. Arrangements by Koehn Bros. Funeral Home in Parkston.
Dorothy Ellen Long was born August 7, 1923 to Will and Nellie (Volk) Seydel in Cosgrove, IA. She attended and graduated high school at Cosgrove before moving to Cedar Rapids, IA where she worked in a defense plant for the United State Air Force. She was united in marriage to Oren Long on October 25, 1944 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City, IA. Dorothy and Oren moved to a farm near Olivet, SD where they lived and raised their family until retiring and moving to Parkston, SD in 1999. Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Altar Society, Catholic Daughters, and American Legion Auxiliary. She loved being a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, helping others by volunteering in the community, school, and the Manor and spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and embroidery. Dorothy went to her heavenly home on Sunday, October 20, 2013 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of 90.

Long of Madison, SD; Cynthia (Don) Fisher of Willmar, MN; Steve (Brenda) Long of Indianola, IA; Mark T. Long of West St. Paul, MN; Matthew J. (Debbie) Long of Creston, IA; Patricia J. (Brent) Morningstar of Maple Lake, MN; Michael J. (Becky) Long of Olivet; Todd W. (Kay) Long of Mitchell, SD; Monica M. (Gene) Ulses of Papillion, NE; Jennifer L. (Kevin) Fergen of Dimock, SD; Margaret S. (Dan) Minnaert of Boise, ID; and Morry L. (Theresa) Long of Loveland, CO; 43 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 2 brothers Dale (Margaret Ann) Seydel and Bob (Marlene) Seydel; and a sister Bonnie (Bill) Ball.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Oren in 2006; a granddaughter, Jessica Fergen; 2 grandsons, Christopher Fisher and Sammy Schaefer: and 8 loving brothers and sisters.
Memorial would be preferred in lieu of flowers.
