Dino corn maze meanders through Milltown
MILLTOWN — Walk like a dinosaur, or through one to be exact. The first-ever Milltown farmers corn maze, a 4-mile-long track set in the shape of a giant dinosaur, opened Friday. Donna Stainbrook, who is putting on the event, is excited to offer something new to the area for fall entertainment.
“This is the first year, so I’m just as green at it as they are,” Stainbrook said. “I just wanted to give the kids something to do, because there isn’t much around for them anymore other than school activities.”
The maze was professionally cut by a group called Maze Play that travels the states creating masterpieces that are as much art as they are maze. Along with the 4-mile dinosaur maze there will be a smaller one for younger kids where they will follow Dorothy along the yellow brick road according to Stainbrook.
For the large maze there will be maps and checkpoints. Stainbrook joked how she doesn’t want anyone to get lost in such a big dinosaur. She estimates the total size of the maze to be around 8 to 10 acres.
Many of the locals have been chipping in to help make it a success by painting signs and even taking an aerial photo of the maze. Stainbrook has added her own decorative touches. “I always like to put things out in my yard, so I have a lot of things like decorations that I’m using from years before and it seems like everyone helps out a little,” she said.
The maze will run from today through Nov. 2, weather permitting. It will be open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fridays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
