DenOuden promoted to assistant editor
Candy DenOuden, of Mitchell, has been promoted to The Daily Republic's assistant editor.
DenOuden an Avon native and Mitchell Christian School graduate, came to the newspaper as a life reporter/paginator in August 2012.
This spring, she was accepted to Forum Forward, an internal Forum Communications Company program created in 2009 to broaden the leadership skills of employees and to build the company's next generation of leaders.
DenOuden's promotion means she will shift her primary focus from life reporting to news reporting and will assist with the overall leadership of the newsroom.
She has won awards for her reporting from the South Dakota Newspaper Association. Also, a photo she took in August hit the national stage in November, when it made David Letterman's "Late Show." The photo was of a dead raccoon along the side of the road with a "Get well" balloon tied to its leg.
