Delores Cecilia Pries joined her beloved husband, Gerald, on their eternal journey with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 2, 2014.
Delores was born on September 28, 1927, in Butler, South Dakota, to Sophia (Mathiason) Martin and Nick Martin. Her mother, Sophia, died when she was an infant, and Delores spent her early childhood with her Aunt Rose and Uncle Dell Walton on a farm in rural Webster, SD. Nick remarried Mamie Holschler and Delores spent time with both families through school. She graduated from Webster High School in 1945, and went on to beautician school. Delores met her future husband, Gerald, while at a dance with her best friend, Bonnie, who also met her future husband, Gordon Gramberg, at the same dance. They were best men and maids of honor at each others weddings.
Delores and Gerald were married on September 17, 1950. They moved to Waubay, where Gerald worked as manager at the Waubay Creamery, and Delores worked out of their home as a beautician. While in Waubay, they raised three children, Gary (Dianne) Pries of Sioux Falls, SD, Jeff (Renee) Pries of Rochester Hills, MI, and Laurie Zirpel of Fort Worth, TX.
In 1965, Gerald and Delores moved their family to Parkston, SD, where Delores began working as the office assistant for a local veterinarian. Delores was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Faith Lutheran Church Ladies Aid, Birthday Club, and enjoyed golfing with Gerald and several of their friends. Shortly after Gerald passed away in December 2006, Delores moved to Avera Assisted Living. She was well-known in the community for her homemade pies (apple and rhubarb) and rhubarb custard.
In the last few years of her life, she moved to Michigan to be closer to her son, Jeff, his family, and her two great grandsons. Delores is predeceased by her husband, mother and father, and her brother, Frank Martin. She is survived by her brother, David Martin (Sioux Falls, SD), her sisters, Julie Kinstad (Sioux Falls, SD) and Barb Herrick (Mitchell, SD), her children, six grandchildren, Kara (Todd) Storm, Ryan (Melanie) Pries, Stephanie (Joseph) Stenberg, Jessica Pries, Michael Zirpel, and Taryn Zirpel, and two great grandsons, Everett and Oscar Stenberg.
