Deadwood's historic depot to get $400,000 roof
DEADWOOD (AP) — A historic railroad depot in the western South Dakota gambling town of Deadwood is getting a new roof.
The Black Hills Pioneer reports that the City Commission this week accepted a bid of just under $400,000 for the roof work on the Fremont, Elkhorn and Missouri Valley Railroad Depot.
The Deadwood History and Information Center inside the building will remain open during construction, which is to wrap up this fall.
The depot was built in 1897 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The roof hasn't been replaced for two decades.
