De Smet woman killed in accident
A De Smet woman was killed in a one-vehicle accident Thursday morning in Miner County.
Joann Dunigan, 52, was traveling north alone in a 2005 Kia Sedona on U.S. Highway 81 in Miner County when her vehicle went off the highway and entered the ditch. Miner County Sheriff Lanny Klinkhammer said the vehicle struck an approach and flipped "end over end."
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Klinkhammer said it is suspected that a medical issue may have caused the accident, but nothing has been officially determined. Dunigan was wearing her seat belt at the time of the incident.
The Miner County Sheriff's Office, Miner County Ambulance, Howard Fire Department and the South Dakota Highway Patrol responded to the accident.
It is being investigated by the Miner County Sheriff's Office and the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
