PIERRE – Gov. Dennis Daugaard today released the results of an independent audit of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED).

The audit was conducted by the Department of Legislative Audit, state government’s independent accounting agency that reports to the state Legislature, not the Executive Branch.

“I am pleased that, like the earlier reports, this audit does not indicate any wrongdoing beyond the Attorney General’s findings,” said Gov. Daugaard. “I believe we should always welcome input from the outside, and I am glad that this process has recommended improvements in our processes.”

Last year, Gov. Daugaard asked the Attorney General to investigate allegations of wrongdoing by a former state economic development official. The Attorney General’s investigation report was released last fall. The Governor also ordered three reviews of the economic development office by independent auditors:

  • An agreed-upon procedures review of the Future Fund and two other economic development programs by the Stulken and Petersen accounting firm,
  • An internal controls examination of GOED by Eide Bailly LLP and
  • An audit of GOED by the Department of Legislative Audit.

The first two reports were released last month.  All three reports, along with responses from GOED and other state offices, are available at http://sdreadytowork.com/Financing-and-Incentives--Public-Records.aspx.
