Daugaard names Malsam-Rysdon as senior adviser
PIERRE — Gov. Dennis Daugaard announced Thursday that Kim Malsam-Rysdon will join his staff as senior adviser to the governor and as a member of the Governor’s Executive Committee.
Malsam-Rysdon currently serves as the secretary of the Department of Social Services, a position she has held since 2011. She will leave that role to join the Governor’s Office.
Prior to becoming secretary, Malsam-Rysdon served as deputy secretary of DSS from 2005 to 2011. She came to state government in 1995, joining the Department of Human Services, and was director of the Division of Mental Health from 2000 to 2005.
Malsam-Rysdon will start her new role in March of 2014. She will succeed Deb Bowman, who is retiring at the conclusion of the legislative session.
